CAPCOM

In the early days of the space program, the ground-based team in Mission Control, who controlled communications with the astronaut’s capsule, were know as the capsule communicator, which was shortened to CAPCOM. The name stuck even after NASA replaced capsules with the Shuttle.

VSSEC’s newsletter, CAPCOM, is issued quarterly as an electronic newsletter and announces upcoming events and programs, as well as promoting resources for teachers and opportunities for anyone interested in science and space. Please subscribe to the RSS feed or join us on Facebook or Twitter for instant updates.

From August 2010 to August 2012, CAPCOM was a compilation of news articles. To see these stories, please search the VSSEC News Blog Archive.

To see all other past issues of CAPCOM outside of this date please search the CAPCOM Archive.

Prior to September 2012, CAPCOM was issued monthly.
